President's Welcome

Scott MossWelcome to Marco Island!

I hope that you have marked your calendar, packed your swimsuit and started to search for your flight to Marco Island, Florida for April 2018! The last time we met at a beach location (in 2015), we beat all previous attendance records, so I urge you to start planning now. We hope and expect a blowout!

I am very pleased to extend to you a warm and personal invitation to attend NAHAD’s thirty-fourth Annual Meeting and Convention.  This year, our meeting will combine a blend of traditional NAHAD programs with some innovative features – all described inside this brochure.

As a principal at our company and as part of a larger corporation, I am always extremely interested in learning about what’s in the forecast for the future. It is important to scan current conditions with an eye towards future economic predictions and trends.

We will begin the convention with Alan Beaulieu, a leading industry economist who has had industrial distribution in his sights for many years. Not only have his predictions proved to be very accurate, but he has his eye firmly on the distribution channel. Uncertainty and volatility are the prevailing challenges that NAHAD members confront today. Digital Media expert and author, Jonathan Taplin will follow with a dynamic discussion of the powerful disintermediation of centuries-old business practices. Attend this session to find out what your business can do to counter the “Amazon effect”.

Every year, we gather feedback from attendees and incorporate some new features into our program schedule. In 2015, we started to offer specific times and meeting rooms for your company to get together with other employees who may be scattered at locations around the world or to meet with trading partners to discuss new products or opportunities. This has proved invaluable for many member companies. Also, we have brought back a popular avenue for connecting with trading partners at the very beginning of the convention – speed networking. Be sure to sign up and attend!

We have altered our pattern in 2018 to take advantage of our beach location. Members asked to have more space in the program for networking and informal meetings. On Sunday afternoon, we are taking over a large part of the beach for NAHAD activities, as well as a time to relax with a new contact or two. In response to members asking for more time in the Showcase of Hose Solutions, we plan to open the exhibits early with a cocktail reception on Monday night, followed by our traditional Showcase on Tuesday. We will end in the early afternoon to allow those who need to return to their offices the time to make late afternoon and evening flights.

Finally, I cannot write this letter without mentioning our fantastic venue, the sparkling, brand-new convention space at the JW Marriott Marco Island. With spacious and comfortably renovated sleeping rooms, the beautiful white sand and sparkling turquoise water of the Florida gulf coast, I think you will agree that we’ve wrapped our great business program in an extremely attractive package.
